Day 2: Four states and a cave!

Our second day on the road also consisted of a ton of driving.  We drove through Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and finally stayed in Minnesota (just outside of the "Twin Cities" - St. Paul and Minneapolis).

This is what we saw of Chicago.  I would really like to spend a weekend here and do touristy stuff.  This was not in the cards for us this time!

My 3 hours of fame, Dane did all the other driving.  His knees touched the dash on the passenger side and claimed driving was more comfortable.  Works for me!

Our tourist stop of the day was Cave of the Mounds in Wisconsin.  I have never been in a cave, so I found it very cool!  The pictures just don't do it justice.  Some of the caves rock is 400 million years old and the cave was formed 1 to 2 million years ago by. It is always 50 degrees F, no matter what the season.   A nice cool break from the heat!

We continued through the beautiful farmland of Wisconsin.  Lucy meanwhile got impatient in the backseat and wanted to ride shotgun!

The USA has great rest stops.  These come in handy especially when you are driving across the country!  This one we stopped at had a long trail to a "look out point" (which really wasn't a great view, the view was overgrown) but the boardwalk was a great place to stretch our legs and for Lucy to burn some energy.

Day 1: Driving, driving and more driving

Our first day of our adventure mainly consisted of driving!  We left Trent Hills at 8:00 am (on time with the itinerary!) and of course, hit brutal traffic in Toronto.  After stopping at Auntie Lisa's for Lucy's vet certification to cross the border, which by the way no border guards asked about, we headed straight for the Sarnia border, entering into Michigan.  Here is Lucy sniffing the American air...

We decided to bypass Detroit, and to pass the time took hilarious pictures of signs.  Wow are there ever no filters for advertising!  They really didn't want people to miss this one, can be seen from miles away!

We arrived in Merrillville, Indiana late that night, after hitting thunderstorms.  An uneventful first day with 1000 km of driving.  Was Lucy ever happy to get out of that car!!
