The Roof Rack Incident

Just a quick word of advice.  Do not try to move across the country in a Honda Civic with a dog.  And a pack rat.  Our roof bag, which we probably went over the maximum 150 pounds, flew off the back of our car on an interstate in Montana.  Our plan was to head from Devil's Tower that morning, and drive a loooooong drive to Glacier National Park.  The roof rack was a bit of a set back.  We didn't get any pictures of this incident, as it was stressful and could have caused a terrible accident (we were sooo lucky).

We were luckily just outside Billings, Montana (about a half an hour), after driving past small towns every few hours for the entire day.  Since the racks were broken, I had to cram in the back with no seatbelt with the dog, while the heavy, massive bag sat in the front seat.  The seatbelt beep went off every 30 seconds for the next half hour thinking there was somebody in that spot.  Wow.  And to top it off I had to pee so bad.

We got to a Wal-Mart in the nick of time to cancel our hotel reservation, and it all worked out smoothly.  Only a few things were broken (my clock and a cheap picture frame) and my skates were scuffed.  Even my Bath and Body Works soaps (critical, I know) survived the incident.  This is what the inside of our car looked like post-roof rack incident.  Lucy was a good sport!
